Resurrecting the "Idea"

MadcoWK began this blog with “The Idea,” an overland trip from London to Melbourne. Well, apparently this idea is not exactly new…just dead.

The legendary BIT Travel Service guide Overland to India and Australia was a huge counterculture hit in the 1970′s. The guide consisted of hundreds of stapled together letters from fellow backpackers, keeping the guide up-to-date. These BIT collections served as the predecessors to the modern travel guides.

Where can MadcoWK (or you) get this guide? Well, according to Slate, only one copy is known to exist: University of Amsterdam.
