Real Shoestring Travel
Jan 31st, 2009 Posted in Uncategorized | No Comments »Leon Logothetis has a fairly regular gig traveling around on £5 or $5 per day. Right now he’s traveling from Atlanta to Tampa and trying to get ticket to the Super Bowl. You can follow along on the Outside Blog. I highly recommend it, especially to see if he makes it into the Super Bowl tomorrow.
In his posts – and on CNN and another interview – he sounds like a fun guy. I do wonder though, how much of his ability to travel for £5 or $5 was originally facilitated by the fact that he was doing it for TV.
Convenient example of why I’m skeptical: I was watching a “reality” TV show the other night with my flat mates. On the show 3 lonely and loveless guys decide that the way to meet girls is to throw a house party. There is a montage of them advertising the party by walking around the grocery store, talking to their neighbors, and calling girls who they have recently taken on blind dates. Lo and behold, only attractive single women show up for their party. Reality TV at its finest.
With that in mind, I have a healthy dose of skepticism as to the reality of his show, “Amazing Adventures of a Nobody”. However, I do give him major points for his adventures, sounds like quite the challenge and a hell of a good time.
